Mikel Arteta has insisted Arsenal want to be the best all-round team, not just one from set-pieces. Comparisons with Stoke City have also been a welcomed compliment, with the
Gunners now earning four goals from corners in just one week and some have dubbed them “the corner kings”. However, some have suggested
that the Gunners are only good from set-pieces, but Arteta says his aim is to turn the club into the best all-round team.
“We want to be the best in every aspect,” he told ยูฟ่าเบท reporters ahead of Sunday’s game at Fulham.
“The best set-piece players in the world, the best pressing in the middle of the pitch, the best atmosphere in the world, the best in every aspect. “
Before it happened we didn’t score enough goals, they were sagging in defence, we didn’t have the mentality, we weren’t strong enough, we didn’t challenge the top teams. We haven’t won a big away game in 22 years, 17 years, 20 years. “
We want to be the best in everything. We want to have the best academy, develop the best individual players, be the best of the best, recruit the best players, the best coach – that is the aim. “
That’s the aim. If it doesn’t happen then we have to do something.”
And after Wednesday’s win at Manchester United, Dimitar Berbatov compared Arsenal to Tony Pulis’ set-piece prowess at Stoke City. However, Arteta didn’t take that as a criticism.
“I understand exactly what Berbatov meant, in the best possible way. We will take that as a huge compliment, 100 per cent.”
